The Apple iPhone 5 is set to be launched over the next few days, and as expected is grabbing the technology headlines.  This will finally put to rest the endless rumours and speculation about the potential features of the handset.

The iPhone 5 will no doubt be a major success for Apple.  However, at the time of its launch it will face tougher competition than any previous iPhone model has.  One of the most notable handsets to compete with the iPhone 5 will be the Samsung Galaxy S3.  This is one of the most popular Android smartphones of all time, despite having been on the market for less than six months.  It has been a record breaking handset from the Korean manufacturer, boasting a huge 20,000,000 sales in just three months.
There are many reasons for the popularity of the Samsung Galaxy S3.  The timing of the handset’s launch is one.  It was one of the first major smartphone manufacturers to launch its 2012 flagship model, months before similar offerings from the likes of Motorola, Nokia and of course Apple.
Of course, the spec list of this handset is also a major contributing factor to its success.  Its key features include a 4.8 inch super AMOLED HD capacitive touchscreen, 8 megapixel camera, quad-core processor and the latest Android ICS operating system.
While the Samsung Galaxy S3 will certainly prove to be tough competition for the iPhone 5, who can doubt the marketing power of Apple, which was recently announced as the most valuable company in history.  When the iPhone 5 is launched we can expect to see the familiar sight of eager customers queuing outside Apple stores the world over.
However, the Samsung Galaxy S3 now looks set to offer some fresh appeal thanks to an update to the latest Android Jellybean OS and a number of new colour options.
