Phone Wars: Google Nexus 4 VS Samsung Galaxy Note 2

In this edition of Phone Wars, it’s a big time fight here at Android Headlines. As we have in one corner, Samsung’s new king, the Galaxy Note 2 with its 5.5” display. And in the other corner we’ve got the Google Nexus 4, with its gorgeous 4.7” display, and pure Jelly Bean. It’s a battle of the heavyweights so let’s get started. First up are the Spec’s.

Specifications

Google Nexus 4

The smaller of the two devices in this fight. The Nexus 4, even though it’s built by LG is still a top dog in the Android market when it hits on November 13^th. It’s coming with a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, along with 2GB of RAM, and running Android 4.2. Not to mention Android 4.2 is optimized for the Nexus 4.
Pro’s

• Get’s instant updates directly from Google, no carrier involvement
• Blazing fast quad-core S4 Pro processor
• Beautiful 4.7” display

Con’s

• No expandable storage
• Non-removable battery; So you can’t switch batteries in the middle of the day
• No LTE, for those that need the fastest internet connection possible

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

The grandfather of phone/tablet hybrids, the Galaxy Note was introduced last year. It was highly successful but only made it to AT&T and briefly on T-Mobile. Fast forward to IFA 2012 in Berlin, the Galaxy Note 2 gets announced and comes with a beautiful Super AMOLED 5.5” display, 2GB of RAM and a quad-core Exynos processor clocked at 1.6GHz, making everything fly on this monster. On top of all that, Samsung was able to make it available on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Verizon.
Pro’s

• Multi-Window feature; Brings multi-tasking to a whole new dimension
• Exynos 4412 Quad-Core; Said to be the fastest processor available for a mobile device
• 5.5” of Android!
• LTE Connectivity (even on T-Mobile who has no LTE network), Expandable storage, and removable battery
• S-Pen is full of cool gestures, and features for every user. Not to mention the note taking abilities

Con’s

• 5.5” display may be too big for some users
• Slow updates; Running on the latest version of Android, but only for a few more weeks. Until Android 4.2 hits.
• Touchwiz on board, ruining stock Android on such a beautiful device

Winner?

Both of these beasts put up a good fight. But I have to say it’s a draw. Sure each has it’s advantages over the other. But their advantages don’t out weight each other’s. So I’d have to say, the winner depends on your use case. If you’re on Sprint or Verizon, or need LTE connectivity the Galaxy Note 2 is your winner. If you’re fine with HSPA+ with speeds up to 42mbps (currently only available on T-Mobile) then the Google Nexus 4 is your winner.
